Why Letchworth Garden City

The case for Letchworth Garden City

Letchworth is the world's first Garden City. Building began in 1903, inspired by Ebenezer Howard and planned by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin to combine the best of town and country. Around 34,000 people live there, in a town of wide, well-designed streets, many of them pedestrianised.

The town centre has real draws: Broadway Gardens, used for events, the Art Deco Broadway cinema, and the Museum at One Garden City. Letchworth Garden City station recorded almost 1.8 million entries and exits in 2024 to 25, with trains to King's Cross in about 29 minutes.
