Southend Central

A seaside city with two busy stations, a university campus and the longest pleasure pier in the world.

Why Southend Central

The case for Southend Central

Southend-on-Sea became a city in 2022, and around 182,300 people live in its built-up area. It's a year-round place, not just a summer one: a busy High Street, a city-centre university campus and two railway stations that recorded more than 3.6 million entries and exits between them in 2024 to 25.

Then there's the seafront. Southend Pier stretches 1.33 miles into the Thames Estuary, Adventure Island is free to walk into, and the council's Better Queensway project is bringing up to 1,760 new homes to the edge of the city centre.
